Self Identity

This artwork is a visual expression of discovering my self-identity. Enclosed in the dark shadows, I gaze out at the illuminated window, as its glowing rainbow tints the wall. This window stands as a portal of light from which to see the outside: the window to realizing selfhood. This realized selfhood uniquely defines who I am: someone brave to confront challenges. However, this journey to self-discovery was not solely independent. My family background, diverse friend-groups, and personal values have made my self-searching journey possible. My identity is a culmination of the integral experiences and interactions I have had. Overall, as a Korean-American male, who are stereotyped by Western society to be quiet and compliant, I am proud to be a bold teen who does not lose his path. I valiantly step into and approach my sufferings head on, able to do so as a result from my lifelong self-searching journey.
